In Revelations 17:16-17, Babylon the Great is sexually assaulted, murdered, and cannibalized by the great beast and her former lovers. I find it very disturbing that a supposedly "holy" book uses sexual homicide as a metaphor for divine justice.

I've met plenty of fundamentalist Christians who believe that the Bible is the inerrant word of God, but I have yet to find one who can give me a straight answer about the passages that condone rape (OR genocide, OR slavery, OR capital punishment for trivial offenses). If their God condones atrocities such as rape, genocide, and slavery, I want no part of him.Ahabhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14675629709031865432noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7583674511519808833.post-29151030315269097852013-01-07T05:19:21.654+00:002013-01-07T05:19:21.654+00:00I'd recommend this blog for more information a...I'd recommend this blog for more information about religion and raping women: http://freethoughtblogs.com/taslima/2013/01/06/muslim-priests-rape-children/ .

A short summary: It is quite common that Imams or Muslims priests rape. For rape, they prefer children to grown-ups. Imams believe in Islamic laws more than their country’s civil laws. Islam doesn’t advise men not to have sex with children, but all Muslims know that their Prophet Muhammad himself married Aisha, a 6-year-old child. That marriage was consummated when Aisha turned 9.

There are secular laws telling us that sex with children, with or without consent, is rape, and thus rape is punishable by law. But Allah’s laws are different from the laws of the civilized countries that care about women’s rights, human rights, children’s rights.Helmer von Helvetehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02136543309048013677noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7583674511519808833.post-45784678160353417702013-01-07T00:05:15.233+00:002013-01-07T00:05:15.233+00:00Akin was not alone. Another Republican Senate candidate, Richard Mourdock of Indiana, made the statement that if a rape victim becomes pregnant, it's something God intended to happen. Several lesser Republicans made similarly disgusting remarks. It stems from the increasingly fanatical Republican opposition to abortion rights, which makes the issue of rape-induced pregnancy decidedly inconvenient.

All those Republicans lost, I'm glad to say.

Biblical morality is based on a view of women as property, as you say -- property which declines in market value upon being sexually "tainted". Whether the woman consented to the sex in question or not is almost irrelevant. It's good to bring this twisted morality out in the open in all its ugliness -- it is indefensible, and those who continue to claim the Bible as a source of morality need to have their noses rubbed in it.Infidel753https://www.blogger.com/profile/10965786814334886696noreply@blogger.com
