In a neat demonstration of a fundamental Christian principle, allegedly taught personally by Jesus to his followers, a South African Christian 'prophet' killed one of his congregation - a young girl - because she didn't have enough faith.
Or that was his excuse anyway - an excuse provided by Jesus no less. The principle being demonstrated was the one Christians often cite, claiming that with enough faith you can move mountains, even though a mountain has never been seen to be moved by faith alone.
And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.
And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
Mark 11:21-24
To demonstrate the truth of Jesus' promise, to the congregation of Mount Zion General Assembly, Pastor Lethebo Rabalango invited a unnamed girl to lay down in front of the congregation and then had a heavy speaker placed on top of her, assuring her that it would do no harm because faith would protect her. He had earlier told the congregation that Jesus had been able to walk on water because he had faith so he too could perform similar miracles of weightlessness. The weight of the speaker alone caused the girl to lose consciousness but undeterred, Pastor Rabalango then sat on top of the speaker for a full five minutes.
After the speaker was removed and the girl remained unconscious, first aid was administered by several of the congregation to revive the unfortunate victim but she complained of chest pains and was taken to a local hospital where she died of her chest injuries.
Pastor Rabalango explained that this was because she didn't have enough faith, just as Jesus had warned. He never explained why his faith had not prevented him from killing her or rendered him weightless like it had Jesus, allegedly.
