Covidiots - Getting Even More Loopy As the Second Wave Hits

More than 20m Americans could have contracted Covid-19, experts say | US news | The Guardian

Due at least in part to the campaign by covidiot evangelical Christians, more than 20 million Americans could now have contracted Covid-19, according to CDC.

This new information is based on serology tests for the presence of antibodies that have shown, for every person with symptoms who tested positive for antibodies, a further 10 also tested positive. With the number of known cases nearing 2.4 million, multiplying those together gives the 20 million + estimate.

The small crumb of comfort in these figures is that the mortality rate is lower than estimated with 122,000 deaths. The evidence is that young people may be spreading the virus unwittingly having mild or no symptoms of the illness.

According to this Guardian article, cases are now rising in 27 of America's 50 states (up from 22 just a few days ago) with Texas leading the charge and the Republican governor, Gregg Abbot being forced to postpone the planned next phase of opening up the economy with hospital intensive care nearing full capacity. Some experts now talk of infections reaching 'apocalyptic' levels in several Texan cities with Houston on course to be the worst-hit American city.

Florida and California have also seen dramatic rises in cases this month, with California seeing a 69% increase in just two days. Los Angeles County is now the worst-hit county in the nation with 88,500 cases.

On wednesday, 36,000 new cases were reported across all 50 states bringing daily total close to the peak of 36,426 at the first wave peak on April 24. Most of this increase has been in states that had low initial infections and which have been quickest to relax restrictions.

Meanwhile, 'President' Trump, following his announcement at his disastrous election rally in Tulsa that the numbers were going up because the number of test were going up, so he had ordered his people to cut down on the testing [sic], has announced he is cutting federal support for testing centres. He later claimed this was a joke, but his subsequent actions suggest otherwise.

To Trump, the embarrassing thing is the numbers because they affect his approval ratings more adversely than do deaths and hospitalisations, having announced at the start of the pandemic that the numbers were small and would be zero by April.

And, as you might expect, right-wing Christian talbangelical Trumpanzees are doing their level best to prevent containment measures from succeeding. The latest conspiracy theories are that, not only are facemasks a Satanic device to block your god-given respiratory system, but that social distancing is to train people to stand 2 metres apart so 5G facial recognition software can keep a track of you, and the Covid-19 virus was spread by Bill Gates when he implanted it in secret emails that Hillary Clinton sent to everyone's computers and mobile phones. This is so any vaccine when it is developed will include a microchip so your movements can be monitored.

And all this is so the 'deep state' can prevent Trump winning a second term. As Trump proudly said, "I love the uneducated". We're now discovering why.

[Update 26 June 2020 16:15 BST] Johns Hopkins University reported a record rise of 39,972 new confirmed Covid-19 cases yesterday (Thursday]. The previous record was the 36,426 at the apex of the first wave last April. With 20 million Americans now thought to have had the virus, this is only 7% of the population, leaving 93% still at serious risk. It is quite clear now that after just a few days of giving into right-wing and evangelical pressure and protests, America is no in the grip of an even more serious epidemic.
