Creationism's Favourite Felon is Back Behind Bars.

Mr Kent Hovind. Back in prison, this time for assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
Creationist Kent Hovind Sentenced to 30 Days in Jail for Domestic Violence | Hemant Mehta | Friendly Atheist | Patheos

Creationism's favourite criminal, Mr Kent Hovind, is back in prison. Let's try to help him be a better person.

To anyone familiar with Hovind's distain for the law of the land, believing he makes his own laws because he has a close personal relationship with God, this will come as no surprise, since Hovind pushes a relentlessly literal interpretation of the Bible and the Bible positively commands behaviour which might have been acceptable in a brutal, Late Bronze/Early Iron Age tribal society but which is, following the European Enlightenment and the incorporation of Humanism into Christianity, now regarded as criminal in most civilised societies.

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

Ephesians 5:22-24
In physically attacking his ex-girlfriend and "spiritual-only" third wife, IOW, his partner in adultery as it is defined by the Bible, Cindi Lincoln, Hovind was merely doing what the Bible says a man should do when a woman fails to obey his commands. Fortunately, we managed to prohibit that sort of thing years ago and even Christian fundamentalists are now expected to comply with the humanist laws that respect the dignity and autonomy of all people, women included, no matter that they believe they have a magic invisible friend who sanctions their self-licenced exemptions from the law of the land.

In fact, the judge who heard the case brought against Hovind by Cindi Lincoln, agreed that, as with the tax laws that Hovind thought shouldn't apply to him, the law forbidding people to assault others also applies to Mr Kent Hovind. He sentenced Hovind to:
  • One year in jail... but reduced to just 30 days (in a county jail, beginning on October 18 at the latest) while being placed on a one-year "unsupervised probation."
  • A $500 fine, court costs, a $100 bail bond fee, and $2,124.72 to cover Lincoln's medical expenses.
  • A restraining order forbidding him from contacting Lincoln or coming within 500 feet of her.
  • He must surrender all his firearms to the Conecuh County Sheriff's Office.
Any further offence could see him taken back to jail to server the rest of the 12 month sentence.

How this affects Hovind's ability to hire thugs to intimidate Lincoln and smash up her apartment, as she alleged he did once before, is not entirely clear from this judgement. Maybe it's covered by the probation order.

I often challenge fundamentalist Christians who claim they get their 'objective' morals from the Bible, if they promise to spend a year complying with all the commands of the god of the Bible, I promise to send them some books to read in prison. I have not had official notification that Hovind accepted my challenge, but I wonder which books he would prefer to read. I have a wide choice for him, any of which could help him be a better, less ignorant of more honest person by helping to wean him off his absurd fixation with proving that the Bible is the best available textbook of science, history and human moral development, writtn by the god described in it.
