Preacher of hate, John Koletas of Grace Baptist Church, Troy, Albany, NY has hit on a new idea for spreading the teachings of Jesus. He gives away guns to people who come to listen to his sermons in which he explains why killing things is good, why Greeks [sic], blacks and Jews are cursed, and why gun controls are "Socialist" and anti-Christian.
But then, when you live in a society where at least three minority groups are 'cursed' you can't take any chances. What you need is the means to kill thine enemies, and the smug certainty that you're doing God's work when you pull the trigger.
I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do, because I notice it always coincides with their own desires.
Attendees at his church were invited to take part in the raffle for an AR-15 rifle, provided they met the age and background checks criteria in New York state. Koletas advised people to come early as there was a queue last time he pulled the same publicity stunt.susan B Anthony
It would seem that the Jesus Koletas worships would have carried an AR-15 assault rifle, and shot anyone who struck him on the cheek, if only he could have. And, instead of doing what St Paul later told the Romans (Romans 13:1-2) to do - obey the government because all governments are sanctioned by God - he would have urged resistance to any authority that tried to impose gun controls and condemned them as "Socialist".
Koletas told WNYT that the giveaways were meant to honor gun owners and hunters who have "been so viciously attacked by anti-Christian socialist policies."
Koletas' sermons are a case study in how religion provides excuses for people who need excuses and how the Bible is a book of excuses for such people. Back in February, 2019, on three consecutive sundays, Pastor Koletas devoted his sermons to explaining why Greeks, Jews and Blacks are "cursed" and blaming these dehumanising and demonising condemnations on the Bible.
Greeks are cursed, apparently because they worship "the 12 gods of Mount Olympus" [sic], which is why God decreed that they would call their country H-E-L-L-A-S. Also, they invented the Olympic games in which people did 'Gymnastics' naked. This is why America is becoming more and more naked - it's the Greeks!
Beware of Greeks bearing bottoms!
Seek and ye shall find. Pastor Koletas has been diligently seeking. He needs to dissociate himself from his Greek heritage and increase his kudos by creating the myth that God smiled upon him and removed a curse from him when he became a Baptist and turned his back on his Orthodox upbringing.
The verses Koletas found to justify condemning Jews as cursed were Matthew 27:24-25 "When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children."
Apparently, a baying mob can make prophecies and issue curses on behalf of God. But then, since it's in "God's Holy Word", he must have approved it, or put the words into the mouths of the people.
By mid February, Koletas has found the excuses he was looking for in the Bible, having found a verse in Isaiah (Isaiah 9:16), "For the leaders of this people cause them to err, And those who are led by them are destroyed," Koletas declared that Jesse Jackson and Martin Luther King had lied to their followers so the blacks had been mislead, so God had cursed them, as prophesied by Isaiah.
Neat, eh?
At one point in his race-hate sermon, Koletas declares that only 4% of black people use their brains (because 4% didn't vote for Obama!) He claims he learned to run fast as a child because he grew up in an area where there were a lot of black children who learned to run fast by running away from the cops!
Religion provides excuses for people who need excuses!
